faq - lessons

  1. How do I know the level of my child? Please refer to the skill levels page and pick a level that your child has not successfully completed 80% of the listed skills.  Our trained staff will assess all students on the first day of lessons and make any appropriate changes to accommodate your child's needs.

  2. How long does it normally take for a child to progress to the next level? Depends entirely on the child, some children progress quite quickly at first then slow down, while others take a while to get the hang of swimming but once they do, shoot through the levels

  3. How many students are in each class? Our classes are normally below but will never exceed Red Cross standards of 1:6 ratios for beginners (levels 1 and 2) and 1:8 for advanced classes (levels 3-6)

  4. Will a class be cancelled due to rain? No. Swim lessons will occur rain or shine unless there is a lightning storm. In the event that a class is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, we will notify parents and the class will be rescheduled at a future date.   5. Can I reschedule a session?  Is there a fee? Up until 6/1, rescheduling permitted.  After 6/1, rescheduling is not permitted once Lessons Coordinator has confirmed session.

  6. Will I receive a refund if I cancel a lesson? All lesson types get a full refund if cancelled by June 1st. Information about cancellation fees can be found on our Enroll Now page (policies section).

  7. Are make-ups available for missed lessons?  No make ups for missed lessons. Please see Enroll Now page (policies section) for more information.

  8. What do I do if my child will miss a class due to being sick? Please email lessons@westgatecabana.org and include the child’s name, lesson date, and time.

  9. Is there a discount for more than one child from a family enrolled in a lesson? No
